Charlie Murphy Is Laid to Rest; Dave Chappelle, George Lopez, Cedric the Entertainer Among Attendees
Charlie Murphy was laid to rest on Wednesday, according to multiple social media posts from stars and family who attended the funeral service for the late comedian.
Dave Chappelle, Eddie Griffin, George Lopez, Donnell Rawlings and Cedric the Entertainer were among the friends and colleagues paying their final respects.
“Darkness is spreading… paying last respects to brother Charlie Murphy,” Griffin wrote in a Twitter post with a picture of himself and others at the service.
The comedian, actor and older brother of Eddie Murphy died April 12 at the age of 57.
The late Murphy worked as a security guard for his brother in the 1980s before seeking out the spotlight for himself. He became a breakout star on the Comedy Central skit program Chappelle’s Show; he would become as recognizable as his brother thanks to over-the-top but true stories about being around his brother in Eddie’s heyday.
The most popular story turned into a skit was about the late musician Rick James, with whom Charlie had a love-hate relationship, which led to hilarity.
“Our hearts are heavy with the loss today of our son, brother, father, uncle and friend Charlie,” the Murphy family previously said in a statement. “Charlie filled our family with love and laughter, and there won’t be a day that goes by that his presence will not be missed. Thank you for the outpouring of condolences and prayers. We respectfully ask for privacy during this time of great loss for all of us.”
