LISTEN: US Navy Accuses Iran of Harassing Warships; Vicar of Baghdad Says Christianity Will be Wiped Out From MidEast (Second Coming Watch Update #858 with Daniel Whyte III)
First, under the Sign category of DISTRESS AMONG NATIONS — According to Reuters, U.S. Navy commanders have accused Iran of jeopardizing international navigation by “harassing” warships passing through the Strait of Hormuz and said future incidents could result in miscalculation and lead to an armed clash. They spoke after the U.S. aircraft carrier George H.W. Bush confronted what one of the commanding officers described as two sets of Iranian Navy fast-attack boats that had approached a U.S.-led, five-vessel flotilla as it entered the Strait on a journey from the Indian Ocean into the Gulf. The U.S. vessel sent helicopter gunships to hover over the Iranian speedboats as some came as close as 950 yards away from the aircraft carrier. The incident ended without a shot being fired. But it underscored growing tension between the United States and Iran in recent months.
Second, today, under the Sign category of INCREASED PERSECUTION — According to Charisma News, Canon Andrew White, more commonly known as the Vicar of Baghdad, says the time has come where Christianity will soon be wiped out from its biblical homeland in the Middle East. He told Fox News, “The time has come where no Christians will be left. Some [say] Christians should stay to maintain the historical presence, but it has become very difficult. The Christians coming out of Iraq and ISIS areas in the Middle East all say there is no way they are ever going back. They have had enough.” Believers who have stayed under ISIS rule have been tortured, crucified and beheaded under the regime.
Third, today, under the Sign category of DISTRESS AMONG NATIONS — According to Yonhap News, South Korean defense officials have warned that North Korea seems to have finished preparing for another nuclear test, waiting for leader Kim Jong-un’s final decision. An official said, “It is assessed that North Korea is capable of conducting a nuclear test within hours after Kim Jong-un’s order. We are keeping close tabs on its nuclear-related facilities with combined assets from the U.S.” The warning came in response to foreign news reports that a nuclear provocation, which would be North Korea’s sixth, appears imminent. Quoting U.S. officials with the “most recent intelligence” from the peninsula, Fox News said the reclusive nation is in the final stages of gearing up for the test.
Fourth, today, under the Sign category of DISTRESS AMONG NATIONS — According to Reuters, The top U.S. general in Europe says that he had seen Russian influence on Afghan Taliban insurgents growing, and raised the possibility that Moscow was helping supply the militants, whose reach is expanding in southern Afghanistan. Army General Curtis Sca-par-rot-ti, who is also NATO’s Supreme Allied Commander, told a Senate Armed Services Committee hearing, “I’ve seen the influence of Russia of late – increased influence in terms of association and perhaps even supply to the Taliban.” But Russian officials have denied they provide aid to the insurgents, who are contesting large swaths of territory and inflicting heavy casualties, and say their limited contacts are aimed at bringing the Taliban to the negotiating table.
Fifth, today, under the Sign category of WARS & RUMORS OF WARS — According to The Daily Star, China has parked an arsenal of missiles within striking range of US army bases as its war chiefs ready “military hard power” for possible conflict. The Chinese army is aiming the firepower at Taiwan as part of an escalating military threat to the island. But US military bases in Okinawa are within range of the ballistic missiles – which can hit targets with “pinpoint precision” 1,000 miles away.

The prophetic passage of Scripture that we are looking at today is Jeremiah 30:4-7 which reads: “And these are the words that the Lord spake concerning Israel and concerning Judah. For thus saith the Lord; We have heard a voice of trembling, of fear, and not of peace. Ask ye now, and see whether a man doth travail with child? wherefore do I see every man with his hands on his loins, as a woman in travail, and all faces are turned into paleness? Alas! for that day is great, so that none is like it: it is even the time of Jacob’s trouble, but he shall be saved out of it.”
Allow me to share with you some commentary on this passage from the Popular Bible Prophecy Commentary, edited by Tim LaHaye and Ed Hindson.
In Jeremiah 30:4, the prophecy regarding Israel’s restoration begins in earnest. God tells Jeremiah that the words he is about to write are the words of the Lord concerning both Israel and Judah.
In verses 5-7, Jeremiah mentions the Great Tribulation. He begins with the voice of judgment. Behold, it is “a voice of trembling, [a voice] of fear, and not of peace.” Rather than peace, there is the pain of childbirth. “Ask now, and see if a male can give birth.” The answer is no. If that is the case, then “why do I see every man with his hands on his loins, like a woman in labor,” and all faces turned pale? The answer is that the day of the Lord, the Tribulation, has finally arrived. Concerning the Tribulation, Jeremiah states in verse 7, “Alas! for that day is great.” “That day” is equal to what is elsewhere referred to as the “day of the LORD,” the most common biblical name for the Great Tribulation. It is so severe that the verse states, “none [is] like it; and it is the time of Jacob’s distress.” The Bible has many names for what is commonly called the Great Tribulation. Here a name is given that directly relates it to the Jewish nation—it is “the time of Jacob’s distress” because the Tribulation will be much more severe for Jews than for Gentiles. The reason it will be more severe for the Jews than for others is because of the principle found in Isaiah 40:1-2: Israel receives double for all her sins. As much as God punishes the Gentiles, Israel always receives double for all her sins because of yet another principle: To whomever much is given, much is required. The Tribulation will prove to be uniquely “the time of Jacob’s distress.” Nevertheless, there is this promise: “But he will be saved from it.” No matter how bad the Tribulation may get for them, the Jews as a people, as a nation, will survive it.
If the Lord tarries His coming and we live, we will continue looking at the prophetic passages of the Bible in our next broadcast / podcast.
Our second coming quote for today is from J.C. Ryle. He said, “I do not know when Christ will come. I am no prophet, though I love the subject of prophecy. I dislike date-fixing, and I think it has done great harm. I only assert positively that Christ will come again one day in person to set up His kingdom, and that whether the day be near—or whether it be far off, it will take the Church and world exceedingly by surprise.”
If you are not ready for the return of Jesus Christ, may I encourage you to get ready today by receiving Him as your Savior. Here is how.
First, accept the fact that you are a sinner, and that you have broken God’s law. The Bible says in Romans 3:23: “For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God.”
Second, accept the fact that there is a penalty for sin. The Bible states in Romans 6:23: “For the wages of sin is death…”
Third, accept the fact that you are on the road to hell. Jesus Christ said in Matthew 10:28: “And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.” Also, the Bible states in Revelation 21:8: “But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.”
Now that is bad news, but here is the good news. Jesus Christ said in John 3:16: “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”
Just believe in your heart that Jesus Christ died for your sins, was buried, and rose from the dead by the power of God for you so that you can live eternally with Him. Pray and ask Him to come into your heart today, and He will. Romans 10:13 says, “For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.”
Keep looking up for your redemption draweth nigh. Let us join in the prayer of John the Revelator — “Even so, come, Lord Jesus.” God bless you.
