As the credits rolled in Straight Outta Compton, I couldn’t help thinking about what came next: the era of Death Row Records and the musical careers it produced or launched, including Tupac Shakur’s, Snoop Dogg’s and Dr. Dre’s. There’s a lot more to be told about the rise of West Coast hip-hop.
Well, that story may make its way to the big screen.
Because of the film’s massive success, one of the executive producers of Straight Outta Compton, S. Leigh Savidge, is shopping around a sequel to the film based on that premise. It’s called Welcome to Death Row and is being pitched by the talent agency APA, the Hollywood Reporter reports.
The movie will be based on a book and documentary by the same name. No word on whether the actors who played Dr. Dre and Tupac in Straight Outta Compton will be reprising their roles for this project. Nor do we know whether Ice Cube, F. Gary Gray and Dr. Dre will be affiliated with this Death Row biopic.
