Our key Bible passage today is Revelation 21:1-3

1 And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea.

2 And I John saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband.

3 And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and he will dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and God himself shall be with them, and be their God.

— PRAYER —

Our lesson today is titled “What Will Heaven be Like?” (Part 2)

During our last lesson, we began looking at the nature of Heaven, our eternal home. From the Bible, we learned that: (1) Heaven is a place of incredible beauty; (2) Heaven is a place of incredible abundance; (3) Heaven is a place of incredible happiness. Turning back to Scripture, let’s find out more about this wonderful place called Heaven.

1. Who will Live in Heaven? Revelation 22:14-15 says, “Blessed are they that do his commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city. For without are dogs, and sorcerers, and whoremongers, and murderers, and idolaters, and whosoever loveth and maketh a lie.”

The ones who live in this beautiful city of God are those whose names are written in the Lamb’s Book of Life — that is, those who have received the Lord Jesus as their Savior. Although some in this world would have us to believe that everybody goes to Heaven in the end, that is simply not the case. In Heaven, everyone will love and worship the Lord Jesus Christ. You will be able to walk the streets of Heaven for a million years and you will never hear anything but words of worship and praise for Him. Since this is true, then those who do not love the Lord Jesus will have no part in this beautiful place.

2. What Will We Do in Heaven? While we do not know all that God will have us to do in Heaven, the Bible does provide a glimpse of the activities we will be engaged in in our eternal home.

We will see our King face to face. Revelation 22:4 says, “And they shall see his face; and his name shall be in their foreheads.” Many people have wondered what Jesus looked like. Many great artists have tried to depict the son of God in their artwork. However, we do not have an accurate picture of the physical appearance of Jesus Christ. However, in Heaven we will see Jesus Christ face to face.

We will sing a new song. Revelation 14:3 tells us that the redeemed of the Earth “sung as it were a new song before the throne.” In Heaven, we will sing songs of praise to the Lamb of God who took away our sins.

We will serve our King. Revelation 22:3 says simply, “his servants shall serve him.” We do not know exactly what kind of service this will be, but we are certain to enjoy it because we love Him.

We will reign with our King. Revelation 22:5 tells us that we “shall reign for ever and ever.” Perhaps one of the most exciting things we will do in Heaven is to help Jesus Christ administrate the New Heavens and the New Earth.

We will worship our King. Because Heaven is eternal, we will finally have a chance to give to Jesus Christ the praise, honor, and glory that is due to His name.

Unlike what some people may say, Heaven will not be boring. Far from it! We will be busy in our new, eternal home.

3. We Will Worship God and the Lamb of God in Heaven. John saw the throne of God in Heaven. In the midst of that throne he saw “a Lamb as it had been slain.” This is none other than the Lord Jesus Christ. The Lord Jesus has many titles, but none is more wonderful than the title “the Lamb of God.”

What do we mean when we speak of Jesus as “the Lamb of God”? We mean that He died on the cross for our sins. The most precious truth in all the Bible is this: the Son of God loved us so much that He left Heaven and became a man so He could die for our sins. It is no wonder that all in Heaven love and worship Him.

Revelation 1:5, 6 says, “Unto him that loved us, and washed us from our sins in his own blood, And hath made us kings and priests unto God and his Father; to him be glory and dominion for ever and ever.”

People from every tribe, language and nation in the world will gather around the throne of the Lord Jesus to sing His praises. The Bible says, “And they sung a new song, saying, Thou art worthy to take the book, and to open the seals thereof: for thou wast slain, and hast redeemed us to God by thy blood out of every kindred, and tongue, and people, and nation; And hast made us unto our God kings and priests.“

John saw angels around the throne of the Lord Jesus. The number of them was so great that they could not be counted. They were worshipping the Lord Jesus saying, “Worthy is the Lamb that was slain to receive power, and riches, and wisdom, and strength, and honour, and glory, and blessing.”

Then John describes another scene in Heaven. This time he heard every creature in Heaven and earth worshipping the Lord Jesus saying, ”Blessing, and honour, and glory, and power, be unto him that sitteth upon the throne, and unto the Lamb for ever and ever.”

Some day, with the millions of redeemed people, we will gather around the throne of the Lord Jesus to praise and worship Him. Our King is worthy of all worship!

If you do not know Jesus Christ as your Saviour, John 3:16 states, “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”

The Bible also says in Romans 10:9 and 13: “That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved…. For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.”

If you believe that Jesus Christ died on the cross for your sins, was buried, and rose from the dead, and you want to trust Him for your salvation today, please pray with me this simple prayer: Holy Father God, I realize that I am a sinner and that I have done some bad things in my life. I am sorry for my sins, and I want to turn from my sins. For Jesus Christ sake, please forgive me of my sins. I now believe with all of my heart that Jesus Christ died for me, was buried, and rose again. I trust Him as my Savior and I choose to follow Him as Lord from this day forward. Lord Jesus, please come into my heart and save my soul and change my life today. Amen.

If you just trusted Jesus Christ as your Saviour, and you prayed that prayer and meant it from your heart, I declare to you that based upon the Word of God, you are now saved from Hell and you are on your way to Heaven. Welcome to the family of God! I want to congratulate you on doing the most important thing in life and that is receiving Jesus Christ as your Lord and Saviour. Until next time, May the Lord Bless You!
