Sophomore Justin Bernard Singleton, 19, was arrested early Saturday, police said.
He is accused of murder in the shooting death of fellow student Brandon Robinson, a junior and a promising football player, outside the Hugine Suites dorm at South Carolina State University.
A motive for the Friday afternoon killing was not released, but the two had been arguing, police said.
The 3,200-student school was on lockdown until about 6 p.m. Friday. Police initially said they were pursuing four suspects. But it was not clear Saturday if that was still the case.
